May 9 -- Coastside Comedy Improv
Relive the sensation of childbirth by laughing so hard your sides ache and you even wet your pants a little. This Mothers Day weekend, Blue Blanket Improv is putting on a show to celebrate mothers everywhere. Mom always said laughter's the best medicine. So, if you love your mother, you are a mother, or you have a mother, get down to Half Moon Bay this Saturday, May 9, and catch the mother of all comedy improv shows!

May 31 -- Comedy Charity for First Responders Support Network
Come watch Blue Blanket Improv and help out local first responders at the same time. This show is part of a charity benefit for the First Responders Support Network (FRSN) and Blue Blanket is honored to lend a hand.

The FRSN is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide treatment programs that promote recovery from stress and critical incidents for first responders and their families. The FRSN is a collaboration among emergency service peers, mental health clinicians, and chaplains who volunteer their time.

Blue Blanket Improv Accepting Applications for Performing Arts Scholarship Program

Blue Blanket Improv (BBI) is now accepting applications for the Blue Blanket Improv Performing Arts Scholarship Program. An extension of BBI's mission to support performing arts on the Coastside, the BBI scholarship program is designed to assist exceptional Coastside young people who are interested in the performing arts by providing real-world performance experience, improvisational comedy skills training, and a cash scholarship.

Coastside high school students interested in the scholarship need to complete an application form and audition for an internship position with BBI. Interns chosen to join BBI will practice and perform with the troupe and will be eligible for the BBI scholarship. Interns will be selected by members of the Blue Blanket Improv comedy troupe in March and the scholarship winner will be announced in June.

Scholarship applications must be returned to BBI by June 1, 2009. Auditions for the BBI internship will be held at Enso Yoga Studio in Half Moon Bay later in June.

To learn more about the Blue Blanket Improv Performing Arts Scholarship Program, visit the BBI scholarship program web page and download a copy of the scholarship application. Or email BBI directly at blueblanketimprov@hotmail.com.

Blue Blanket Improv Rolls on in 2009

Living up to its stated mission to help foster a thriving arts scene on the Coastside, Blue Blanket Improv (BBI) has been busy, busy, busy getting its laugh on. And the laughs will continue with monthly Coastside performance dates in 2009.

This year has been a big one for BBI. In addition to our 12 monthly shows in Half Moon Bay, we helped numerous other organizations raise money for their good causes, including Adopt-A-Minefield, the Oddfellows Performing Arts Fundraiser, and the Coastal Repertory Theater's 16th Annual Talent Show. We added new members Sande Anfang and Oleg Hansen and awarded our 2008 Performing Arts Scholarship to local teen Jarred Gibbs, who will also become a regular member of the troupe for 2009. We also partnered with the Half Moon Bay Department of Parks and Recreation to host two improvisational comedy workshops for aspiring funny folk.

The buzz on BBI is really starting to ripple up and down the Coastside, from Pescadero to Pacifica. The last couple of shows have been well attended, and the audiences have been enthusiastic and inspiring. Ah good times.

But hey, if you missed any of these great performances, take heart -- BBI is out there, baby! On Saturday, May 9, we're putting on another local show at ENSO. So why not take the family, a date, or your buddies out to dinner and then swing by Enso for some quality, local entertainment. And it's improv, so who knows, you might even find yourself onstage before the night is over.
